What is the latest date( in the fall) I could plant tomatoes in Phoenix Az?
I recently moved from the Northeast. I understand there are two planting seasons for tomatoes in Phoenix. Spring and Fall. I planted tomatoes in October. Are they going to make it?

- Probably. I planted mine in Sept. and they are doing great. There were a couple dozen fruits last time I looked. Just keep an eye on the night time temp and if it drops into the 30's cover them up with an old sheet at night.
- Im not exactly sure what it is like in Phoenix... I farm in southern California. I would guess that it gets rather chilly at night during the dead of winter. Tomatoes generally take about 80 days to harvest after planting, but that is a warm season number. I would recommend not planting 100 days before when you expect a freeze. This may only provide one harvest. If your fruit is green, I would harvest it at the first hint of color, then leave it on your counter near some bananas and apples and it will continue to ripen. Even if they are a little green, they will be 10 times better than any store bought 'maters!
- It is according to which zone you live in. Go to this link and scroll waaaay down the screen for growing information and plants: http://cals.arizona.edu/gardening/climate/printzone.html
