What goals Should I have being a new business owner, trying to open a new bookstore business?
I need to know what short term and long term goals I should have in order to open and run a successful business. I am looking to open a bookstore!

- This is a big question and it's all wrapped up in a lot of questions: How large is your store? Are you planning on getting capital from investors or are you putting up your own money to git 'r done? How much are you planning to market the business? How much marketing background and experience do you have? Have you owned a business in the past? ... and more. When you write a business plan before you just grab some goals out of the sky *smile* it's important that you look at the competition in your area. You look at the industry in general. Particularly when it comes to books (I'm an author so I know a little about the book industry) you need to know about probably business projections for an independent store like what you want to start. Hope this is helpful as a starting place. - The best thing for you to do would be to start with a business plan, this tool will give you the layout on what steps you need to make to have a successful business. I went through the same process recently when setting up my new company. I did find a great tool that helped me map out a great business plan. I am providing the link to Sole Proprietor Magazine below.
- So you expect me to magically tell you what YOUR goals should be? My goals for a bookstore may be to make $1 000 000 per year and buy a jet, or my goals can be to only sell Harry Potter books. My goals aren't for YOUR business, yours are. Write a business plan, there's a ton of books to help, buy a book on starting your own small business, because goals are the least of your worries, there's a lot bigger things to think about.
