How much would it cost in the summer for electricity in Phoenix?

How much would it cost to cool a 2 bedroom 1,025 square foot apartment in Phoenix during the summer months?

  1. It depends upon what temperature you keep the air on and whether you get electricity from APS or SRP.
  2. Pepper is correct. The thermostat setting and your electric provider play the major role here. Just as an added note: I've found that if you know the cubic footage of your apartment and multiply it by 2 cents it comes out very close to what your actual bill is. 1,025sf. x 8ft ceilings = 8,200 cubic feet Times .02 = $164.00 per month. That's using a thermostat setting of 80 degrees and having APS as my power source. My first year here I set the temp at 72 and my bill was around $300. I soon learned I could save money by just turning up the temp a few degrees. You'll learn how to strike a good balance between your thermostat setting and your wallet.
  3. I lived for 5 years out there & it only cost an average of $150 to cool my 2 story 200 sf house. The biggest question would be which provider you have, what type of meter & what services they offer for the specific area you wish to rent. APS has 2 tierd plans for those with digital meetered residences. it is around 2 to 3 cents a kw between 9pm & 8am (we did all our washing dishwashing & ran our pool pumps between these times) and about 12 cents a kw peek. We had an all electric house. My daughter has an apartment on the west side she has a meter that she has to re-load with credit or atm card (they were late on too many bills so must pay in advance) they spend about $80 to $90 a month & run the ac to keep it at about 76-77 in the house in the day(might not sound cool, but when you come in from 110 degrees it feels cold) you would probably be less than hers because she pays a higher rate to cover the cost of the meter.
  4. Yes pepper is right, ha ha. I have a one bedroom, and am very stingy with the thermostat. (college student) and I still pay like 70 dollars.
