Why do people go to the University Of Phoenix if it has a bad reputation?
My 21 year old cousin recently started going to the University Of Phoenix. From my understanding, that school has a VERY bad reputation. And not to be rude, but she's not very bright either. We live in a large city, so she would have a huge choice of community colleges and REAL universities that offer on-campus and online courses. Why are people still going the University Of Phoenix if it has such a bad reputation?

- Because unfortunately, community colleges have a worse representation than they deserve. And University of Phoenix ads are everywhere (heck, I think there was one up when I went to answer this question), making a really convincing sales pitch and emphasizing how easy it is to earn a degree from them. If you don't do the research and compare costs, and/or you don't think you have a shot at traditional universities, they look like a credible alternative.
- Because they advertise well, for one thing. Another thing, it's apparently pretty easy to get a degree. And that's just it - it's easy, that's why it's not taken seriously by any employers. If I were hiring people, I wouldn't give them an interview if I thought they could have just printed their degree off from a scam site. But the easiness is a real draw because people like getting something for nothing. Shame on them.
- You answered the question yourself: U of Phoenix students are not very bright. They're also the worst people to ask for an opinion about U of Phoenix, because they don't know any better. In their ignorance, they think U of Phoenix provides a real education.
- I was one of those dumb people. I have 10 years of college at a Local University. Dual Major (and part time to full time). During my College career I was married and divorced the divorce had legal actions tied to it that caused me not to get the degree I had pursued. (It was labeled a violent crime, for an email) in Missouri, I was not able to work in my field. I had looked for alternatives, and found UoP, which is advertised everywhere. The Graduate Degrees at the local college did not accept my undergraduate degree. These people are trained salesman and brain washers, they hooked me $5000 in debt later they are still trying to keep me in the program by threats. look up University of Phoenix and Scams, lawsuites, ect, even wikipedia.
