  1. I wouldn't live in Phoenix personally. I live in a city just outside of it. If you are into the college scene, Tempe is the best. If you like to party or have lots of money, Scottsdale is the one. And if are raising a family then Chandler and Gilbert. There are nice parts of Phoenix, but its mostly a city to work in. It has really old run down areas. If you have never been to Arizona, I would make sure you can survive the summers. I don't mind that much, but if you are coming from somewhere cold it could be a shock.
  2. damned hot still. Only about 103F today, nice & cool compared to how it's been this Summer. Smog's getting worse, traffic's getting worse - but the light rail goes online next year. Housing market - it's a buyers market. I missed the peak, so I'm hoping to get out of Phoenix next year, when it's rebounded a little.
  3. People who enjoy hot weather seem to thrive there. I've met people there who loved it ("It's only really hot about six weeks a year!!") and people who could not wait to leave ("Try six MONTHS of hell!"). There is a lot to do there and it is as safe as any big city. Sedona is only a couple of hours drive away, in case you are into crystals and mysticism and stuff. Pro sports tickets seem to be easily available - there seem to be few major league sports fans. Women are beautiful (but, hey, they seem to be in most places). The Phoenicians will hate me for saying this but it seems like a Southern California city located in the desert.
  4. I love it here. Phoenix is ok. The cities around are the best. I live in Chandler. Love it. Scottsdale is nice too. But of course, summers are hell. But you get used to it. And everywhere you go has A/C.
  5. It's ... OK. It's not a city in the classic sense. Most cities have kind of a downtown core and neighborhoods around it. Phoenix, being so new, is mostly a gigantic suburb with no clear neighborhoods, and, until recently, not much of a downtown. The surrounding cities had much of the charm - Tempe, with its walkable Mill Avenue, Scottsdale, with its walkable downtown, and Chandler, with its pretty parks. Phoenix is now trying to reverse that - there are bike trails along the Arizona Canal now, and the downtown is starting to come together, with walkable areas, art galleries, new restaurants, new condos, and stadiums. The light rail comes next year too. So it's developing, but it's a city in transition. It doesn't have the "city" feel of a Chicago or New York, and if you're from Chicago, Phoenix will feel more like a Hinsdale, and if you're from New York, it'll feel more like a Stony Brook. It's suburbs.
  6. Phoenix is... boring. You will enjoy Phoenix if you're working in a business in the city or an old person who likes to take things slow. VERY slow. But please, do NOT move to Arizona. The whole state in general, like stated, is just a giant suburb. Phoenix has the most excitement of the whole state because people are actually seen outside of their homes doing things. My family and I drive about 20 mins to the Arizona Mills mall just to go to an arcade. That's the most fun thing you can do. Unless you like.. going to a local dairy farm in Chandler or Gilbert. I suggest our GREAT neighboring state California. =]
  7. Phoenix is an AWESOME city!!!!!!! There is alot to do and alot to experience. I just moved to Mesa, Arizona from California and the 2nd night I was here...it was amazing!!!! Sitting out on my front patio...I looked up and saw the stars in the sky and they were so beautiful!!!!! Then I saw a lonely coyote wander right past my house and I have never been that close to a wild animal before...it was an experience I will never forget. If you come out during the summer, you will get to experience our dust storms. One minute its sunny and nice..the next minute the wind starts to howl and then the entire street is covered in dust....its an experience to see that. After a monsoon storm rolls through...the rainbows you see are absolutely amazing....the colors are so amazing!!! To answer your question...Phoenix is an amazing place...if you want to have experiences that you will remember the rest of your life.
  8. yeah that all depends, its a second Los Angeles without the the ocean and Paris Hilton. It has 100's of malls, its downtown sucks, crime is fairly normal but less as u get into the suburbs. Schoools are excellent but in the "ghetto" is sorta low but not like BAD. Phoenix has waterparks & themeparks too. THe only thing thats bad is that its 100 + degrees in June, Jully, August. Instead of super cold we get hot. (that why people want to leave here) A LOT of things are being put up all over the area. Even the downtown is slowly evolving. For College town its also good, we just dont have a beach. We have like 1000's of clubs and teen hangouts in Scottsdale, Tempe and soon to be "core area". The new cities are also improving too, like chandler and Gilbert is like living in Orange County. Many other cities are quickly are better now or will be in the next 4 to 5 years. hope i helped
  9. It all depends on what you like, and what you like to do. There is plenty to do around Phoenix. It's a big city, so there is crime and a lot of traffic. The people aren't stuck up like they are in California. But if you don't like the hot weather, then it's not for you, but there is A/C everywhere.
  10. If you are person who isn't really huge on culture and like going to the movies and mall alot then Phoenix is a good place for that. If you like hot weather with rather low humidity for the most part, for most of they year... and very sunny days, then Phoenix works there too. If you like beautiful mountainscapes, love to hike and climb, then Phoenix is a great place for that too. However... Phoenix has its problems. For one, it is really very difficult to get to know people here. If you like just talking about an assortment of topics and like something more than "how are you and how is the weather?" talk, that is hard to get here. The people aren't very intellectual, so if you like discussing topics that have a tendency to become heated... (politics, religion, or personal rights) and don't mind not going with the flow, then Phoenix is going to be a problem. Also, if you aren't into speeding, the freeways and surface streets will be like the dodging a race track speedway for you. If you want to be paid well, while not having to worry about being fired for ANY and every reason (from being late down to no show) then Phoenix might be a problem. So, it all really depends on what you want and what you like.
  11. Yes it is.
