Good tourist spots to visit on the way to Phoenix from Los Angeles?

This weekend, I am driving from Los Angeles to Phoenix this weekend. I am planning to visit some places on the way as I have couple of days free. Can you please suggest some good spots which I can visit on the way ?

1. there is nothing to see. it is all desert.
2. Las Vegas isn't too far out of the way.
3. If you're taking the 10 all the way to LA, I'm sorry but it's pretty desolate. Once you get in to CA, there are some cute little towns you can stop and eat at. Drive time from Phoenix to LA is about 6.5 hours. Try looking at Google Earth....tracking your expected path. Vegas is WAY out of the way. You would have to go north for about 5 hours to end up in Vegas. From there it's about another 4-5 hours drive to LA.
4. You can take a detour to joshua tree or 29 palms and drive through the joshua tree national park. The drive will take you back on the 10. If you´re spending the night in 29 palms i recommend harmony motel. U2 stayed there while shooting the cover for their album The Joshua Tree. Palm springs is also on the way, if that's your kind of place. Plenty of nice restaurants and hotels / resorts. Good shopping too. If you really have a lot of time you should consider going to the grand canyon, that would be a different route on the 40. After grand canyon you will go down to phoenix on the 17 and you should really stop in Sedona and see the marvelous red rocks.
